Fire Watch Guard Duties

A fire watch patrol consists of several duties from our professionally trained team

  • Patrol the site as designated. Patrols can be performed any time and we are available 24/7.
  • Keep all exits clear and passable in the event of an emergency.
  • Observe and document in the fire watch log after every scheduled patrol.
  • Report any smoke, fire or safety concern found by our fire watch patrol.
  • Communicate findings with customer, building manger, supervisors, fire department and others as needed.

Our fire safety patrol is available 24/7 and teams can work in multiple shifts as needed. The number of fire watch guards varies based on the size of the job and property being patrolled. In the event a smoke alarm is malfunctioning, our guards will use a whistle to alert occupants of smoke and fire. Fire watch guards will not perform tasks we do not have permission for or are deemed unsafe.

Guards do not attempt to extinguish fires themselves. Guards will alert the local fire department if evidence of a fire is observed. Contact us today with questions or to book our service.

Cincinnati Fire Watch FAQ’s

What is a Fire Watch?

A Fire Watch Guard is a temporary solution for a problem. In short, our patrol or guard checks the premises regularly for fire hazards in person. For example, an extreme fire hazard would be a fire safety equipment malfunction (broken sprinkler system, defective smoke alarms, etc). Likewise, fire watch guards are available when “hot work” construction is performed (welding, flame cutting, brazing, riveting etc).

What does Cincinnati Fire Watch Teams do?

The duties of our fire watch patrol team may vary depending on the job. The basic tasks of our guards is to familiarize themselves with the layout of the site or building. Check all fire extinguishers and exits. Report and remove any immediate hazards from exits or pathways. Carry on their person, tools to log report, a full set of keys to the premises, a horn or whistle and radio to notify residents and/or employees of a fire and execute a safe evacuation of the area.

When are Fire Watch Patrols Performed?

Patrols are performed in increments ranging from 15 minutes to every hour. A log record is kept reporting any findings from each round of patrols. These rounds record anything suspicious for fore safety and any communication that occurs with the local fire department or other public safety official.

What Don’t Fire Watch Patrols Do?

Guards are working in a observe and report capacity. Unless given clear instructions otherwise, Fire Watch guards are NOT to attempt to extinguish any fire unless it is safe for them to do so. Guards are not to perform tasks that can not be safely completed by an average citizen.
